Was born over a chip shop in the Lancashire town in 1898 and went on to be the highest paid actor of her generation during the 1930’s.
The statue was the brain child of SebLessandro, the president of the Gracie Fields Appreciation Society and was unveiled in front of a crowd of thousands by British music hall legend and friend of Gracie Fields, Roy Hudd.
It was the first statue of a woman to be unveiled in the Greater Manchester area in over 100 years.
